Country sourdough loaf made with @meadowlark_mill_and_farm bread flour and rye. The bread flour is about 12% protein, making for a good strong dough. A strong dough is needed for the sought after "ear."

A very simple, easy scoring for sourdough bread. If you find your sourdough is difficult to score, putting it in the eezer (while still in proofing basket) for a few minutes helps! I use a surgical blade for scoring, blades are easy to buy on Amazon.

Seasonal meals to hopefully inspire you:

Roasted pumpkin soup with maple syrup, sage and a few other simple ingredients. Blended with cream cheese--which is a game changer. I absolutely love this soup.

Pumpkin skyr yogurt parfait. Leftover pumpkin mixed with yogurt, maple syrup, PB and cinnamon layered in between wild blackberries and granola.

Over easy eggs nestled in rutabaga and beet hash. I'm so incredibly grateful for my small flock of layers.

My dad and I share a love for pickled beets. Very simple recipe:

2 cups beets, boiled, peeled, sliced
1/2 cup each, white vinegar, sugar, water
1 tsp salt.
Get the brine boiling, pour over beets, let cool and refrigerate.

Hope wherever you are, you enjoy the fall season.

..Frosty September morning. Haven't taken many photos of the garden because I'm liking the phone free life these days, but here is a teeny tiny look into my garden. Pulled all frost sensitive veg. Kale, lettuce, rutabagas, arugula, spinach and carrots are loving life.

The "ear" on sourdough bread is the ridge in the center that springs up. It is where I scored the dough. I love the look of it and it usually indicates an awesome loaf of bread!

Working out the logistics of it all but things are happening! My sourdough will now be a part of Sunset Hollow's delicious menu. Find them on Main Street in downtown Merrill.

Also, I will be offering sourdough pickup sites around Merrill in the near future. What does this mean? I will be taking orders!

Curious if anyone has any opinions on the use of Facebook for business. Is it necessary? Maybe even a separate Instagram?? I want to organically reach customers and get bread into everyone's belly!

My tried and true country sourdough loaf will be the first bread offered: Made with a beautiful starter I have lovingly fed organic flour for years (she smells like wine & flowers!). Organic flour (bread flour, rye flour and semolina) and Redmond's Real Salt. I have the full recipe and process on my blog if you'd like to know more.

Greek inspired salad with NO tomatoes or cucumbers. They just aren't ripe yet! But the lettuce is popping and the dill is gorgeous sooo feta dill salad it is!

Dressing: Dill, lemon, Zaatar, garlic, Dijon, honey, salt pepper and olive oil

Salad: chickpeas, kalamata olives, peperonchinis, green pepper, onion, feta, more dill. I love to mix the dressing with these ingredients, let it sit in the fridge a bit then mix it up with lettuce. This variety of lettuce is on my grow again list for sure. @botanical interest

Goldenrod grows wild, it's frilly tops just starting to turn a mustard yellow. I'll be saving some for the first time this year for tea.

Favorite garlic variety for this year: Rosewood

Zone 4b garden, heavy soil, rainy season, Rosewood did exceptionally well. Red Chesnok is the runner up.

Beautiful bulbs, painted in stripes of purple, are hung in bundles of 5 or 6 in my drafty walk-out basement.

Cilantro and parsley are loving life in the garden and because of that I get to make my favorite sauce! Zhoug. Or zhug..skhug. No matter how it's spelled, it's delicious! Full recipe is coming soon to my farm to table blog but basically mash up/food processor

Cilantro, parsley
Garlic scapes
Coriander seed, cumin
Lemon juice
Pickled jalapenos
Salt, pepper and olive oil.

Excellent with eggs, on meat, as a marinade, atop veggies or mixed into rice

Pictured are strawberry oats simmered in oat milk with cream cheese, peanut butter, maple syrup, vanilla extract and cinnamon. Topped with fresh berries, walnuts and more PB.

I have a few sad looking strawberry plants growing who obviously don't like torrential downpours. With that said, I bought these at a roadside stand and I'm super grateful! I have my mind set on a larger strawberry patch in the future, how many plants did you plant to feed your family?
